Soil Good To See You!

See this soil? You can't buy soil like that. Black soil that smells fresh and is slightly flakey and full of earthworms is what every gardener hopes for when it's time to plant a garden. It has taken me almost a year to figure out how to get soil like this. It takes a LOT of composting - a LOT of brown material like dry leaves and a LOT of green material like kitchen compost.
Today these raised beds are being turned one last time before the really cold weather gets here. 50 pounds of kitchen compost and about 12 bags of dry leaves will be turned into these 4 beds. They will be left alone till late February.
